ちょっとの差が英単語の数だけ掛け算されていくのが厄介です。

hardとhardlyの違いと共通点
hardは、懸命に、熱心にという意味で使われる一方で、
容易に〜しない、苦しんでという意味でも使われます。
つまり、hardlyの意味にもなるので注意が必要です。
Die hardは、「なかなか死なない」

「長年染み付いたクセは直しにくい。」 - She breathes hard.
「彼女は苦しそうに息をする。」 - The cork draws hard.
「コルクがなかなか抜けない。」
